What is PETpro and what do we do?
PETpro Producer Responsibility Organisation NPC is a Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) established in 2022. It manages Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes on behalf of its members for selected packaging-related products. As a national organisation, PETpro supports and strengthens the collection and recycling value chain, promotes better packaging design, helps develop end-use markets for recycled materials, and runs awareness and communication programmes.
PETpro is a collective body formed by producer members to fulfil their extended producer responsibility obligations by taking accountability for their products across the full life cycle, as required under Section 18 of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act. Its work has contributed to consistent annual increases in collection and recycling rates in Tanzania, reducing landfill waste and advancing a circular economy.

Value Addition Projects
We establish contractual agreements with our recycling partners to ensure packaging is responsibly recycled into practical and sustainable end-use products.
Value chain Support and Training
PETpro supports individuals and businesses that contribute to the collection of valuable packaging for recycling in Tanzania. We offer assistance through equipment provision and training to help them grow and succeed.
Education and awareness
Interested consumers—including individuals, schools, and organisations—can use PETpro’s wide range of resources to learn how to identify recyclable packaging and how to properly collect, sort, and recycle it. With greater purchasing power comes greater responsibility!
Circular economy
We are driven by the goal of ensuring that every piece of packaging placed on the market by our members is designed for recyclability, then properly collected and recycled—preventing valuable materials from ending up in landfills and instead returning them into the economy.
